Washington Plans Improvements Along Highway 305

“Driving across the Agate Pass Bridge during the morning or evening commute? Leave early and pack some patience. The state’s Department of Transportation is floating a series of Highway 305 improvements, the most significant of which is a sequence of roundabouts, designed to ease the traffic crunch that hits one of the region’s busiest roads on weekdays.

The projects are the result of two years of work done by DOT and the local government jurisdictions along the highway, aimed at figuring out how to spend $36.8 million in Connecting Washington funds the Legislature appropriated for the corridor in 2015. DOT is proposing to spend the lion’s share of the funds on six roundabouts stretching from Johnson Road in Poulsbo across the bridge to Day Road on Bainbridge Island. Other proposed improvements include better-aligning traffic signals and adding left-hand turn lanes on the highway.”
