North Tarrant Express Project

The North Tarrant Expressway Project will re-build 13.5 miles of I-820 and SH 121/SH 183 in Tarrant County by 2015.  The project is divided into 2 segments:

1.  I-820 from I-35W to Northeast Interchange: 6.4 miles

2.   Northeast Interchange to Industrial Blvd: 6.9 miles

When complete, the project will almost  double road capacity on I-820 and SH 121/SH 183 by adding general purpose lanes, frontage roads and managed toll lanes.  More than 400 properties have been identified for acquisition where eminent domain can be used if negotiations can not be reached amicably between the TxDOT and the property owners.

Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is nearing the construction phase of segment 1 and continuing with property acquisition.   The planning for utility relocation is underway and noisewall workshops are being conducted as affected residents are identified and educated as to the impact of the highway construction.   Additionally, some soil sampling continues along the corridor.

A Public Meeting will be held on October 27th, 2010 from 2:00pm to 8:00pm at the Hurst Conference Center located at 1601 Campus Drive, Hurst, TX 76054.  They will have maps and visuals on display, schematics of the road design, and information on traffic management and aesthetics for the rebuilding of the 13.5-mile corridor along IH820 and SH121-183/Airport Freeway.

Below are layouts of Segment 2W which show the required ROW needed for the project:
