RECENT NEWS: Offers are currently being made to property owners in the Watertown area. Property acquisition will begin later this year and into 2009 for property owners in Fort Aktinson.
Project Information:
This project is one of eight segments of construction within the State Highway 26 Corridor Expansion Project. It consists of constructing a 7.5-mile freeway to carry WIS 26 traffic around the west side of the city of Jefferson. The new highway will be expanded to two lanes in each direction with a grass median.
Three interchanges will be constructed, one on the south side of Jefferson, one at US 18 and one on the north side of Jefferson. Bridges will be constructed at County W, County J, Popp Road, County N and Jahn Road to provide through travel under or over WIS 26.
Real estate acquisition is scheduled to start in late 2006, and continue through 2008.
Construction of this segment is scheduled for fall 2008 through 2010. The estimated construction cost is $42 million (in 2006 dollars).
