Highway 13/County Road 5 Interchange Project’s right-of-way acquisition underway

Biersdorf & Associates Project # 3417.007

Condemning Authority: Minnesota Department of Transportation

July 10, 2009
We were recently informed through public information from the MN Dept. of Transportation that the City of Burnsville has received partial funding for the project. However, the funding received is still well below the amount that’s needed to begin right of way purchases.

The City will likely apply for other grants and stimulus money this year, and if funding is awarded, the earliest construction would begin is 2012.

Much has been discussed over how the federal stimulus money will be spent in the state of Minnesota but last week it was confirmed that out of the $2 million of Dakota County’s share, half will be spent on an environmental study for the long-awaited Highway 13/County Road 5 Interchange Project in Burnsville.

The project, which also includes the reconstruction of frontage and back roads in the area, is meant to improve the increasing congestion and crash issues witnessed by MnDOT officials in the past.

Through our continuous monitoring of the project, we’ve been informed by the public works department in Burnsville that property acquisition is underway for several vacant parcels in the area.  They remaining property acquisition will occur once the City and State receive the necessary funds.
