I-35 corridor project – TX

TxDOT officials announced Wednesday that they have recommended a “no action” alternative to the Federal Highway Administration on the Trans-Texas Corridor 35 environmental study, which will end the development of Texas’ I-35 corridor through the Trans-Texas Corridor concept.

Over the next three to six months, the FHWA will complete the Final Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS) on 35, which will be publicly circulated throughout the study area after the “no action” alternative is approved.

The “no action” alternative recommendation is distinguished from TxDOT’s previously announced plans to change the corridor concept at the beginning of 2010, due to its affect on the environment study, which was not affected by the previous announcements.

Efforts to address congestion on I-35 will continue through the use of the “Innovative Connectivity in Texas” document set forth by TxDOT in January, which effectively terminated the original corridor concept.

Officials said funds already invested in the 35 project will continue to be used by advisory committees, which will work toward new plans to address congestion on I-35.
