Biersdorf & Associates Project # 3165.007
Condemning Authority: New York Department of Transportation
The Kosciuszko Brigde Project has finally been set in motion with property acquisitions beginning immediately.
Last week, the Federal Highway Administration approved the project to replace the bridge that carries the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway over Newton Creek with two parallel spans. The FHA will be responsible for 80% of the project’s costs which are expected to be around $1.7 billion.
Construction for the project is not scheduled to start until 2013 but the acquisition of over 26 businesses in Queens and Brooklyn for right-of-way has begun already, with 11 property owners expected to receive government offers within the next 90 days.
The Kosciuszko Bridge project is meant to relieve current traffic jams and accident rates caused by design shortcomings.
