Senator Tom Harkin (D-IA) has secured an additional $15 million for various transportation improvements, housing initiatives and economic development projects for the state of Iowa. Harkin, a senior member of the Housing and Urban Development Appropriations Subcommittee, announced that the funding will be included in the Fiscal Year 2011 bill. The FY 2011 bill was approved by the Transportation-HUD Appropriations Subcommittee yesterday and will now be bought to the full Senate for consideration.
Included in the projects Harkin successfully lobbied for are $3 million in additional funds for the I-74 Corridor Project. The added $3 million in funds for that project will be used to implement preconstruction and construction activities including right-of-way acquisition for the replacement of the I-74 bridge near Davenport. IowaPolitics.com has a list of the other Iowa projects receiving additional funds.
