This project affects property owners in the Grande Harbor development, located in the northeast part of the state. The Tri-Cities Regional Airport, located next to the development, plans to proceed with condemnation to purchase land owned by a subdivision of Grande Harbor for a planned expansion project.

The project would extend the airport’s secondary runway and build a perimeter road, which would allow vehicles to get form one end of the airport to the other without crossing over the main runway.

Members of the official airport commission recently voted to forego negotiations and proceed with eminent domain to purchase the lots from the Grande Harbor subdivision, because the development cannot remove the restrictions themselves. Some of the restrictions include that the only development allowed on the property is for single-family housing, not the new road in which the airport would like to build.

The commission negotiated a purchase price of $417,000 with Grande Harbor developers in 2008; however the lots that are needed carry subdivision regulations that prevent any development, albeit single family homes, to be built. Members of the development may also lose access to the creek and walking trail, along with some other amenities that come along with the development.

At Biersdorf & Associates, we are the primary attorney working on behalf of property owners for this project and are already representing a handful of property owners on this particular project.

If you are affected by this project, or think you may be, call us for a free no-obligation consultation.
